Obsidian is softer rock. We used flex shafts with diamond bits. Far as I know I do ot have any left and no pictures. I do have a few scraps of ivory but have not worked on it. I carved howlite. It is different than doing ivory.
I am not feeling right this evening. I went to town late and was late having dinner and I think I should of had some food. I guess blood sugar could have ran low or something. Was trying to sort and pack more of the sewing stuff this morning. I want to get all in one box. Still be hard to use it that way but least be together.

Hope you get to feeling better. I just wondered about the scrimshaw. What did you use to "color in" the lines? or did you just carve them deep? I like the diamond bits. Since the price has come down for industrial diamond, I have diamond bits, blades, cutters of several types. This is just to keep myself amused since I got rid of it all once when I got sick and didn't think I needed any tools any more.

Buff and rub. Comes in colors. Gold is good. On obsidan the lines turn white and you do not go very deep. You use plished stone of course. You can not so all that find detail.
I went to clinic for my monthly blood test today and it was bad. I was told to take one extra pill today and come back on Monday for another test. Eat what I been eating. Bloodthinner test and too thick. I hate that.
Just hope the weather will be okay. I drive to town and get the bus to go across town. Have to go through a double round about. Where a couple highways cross. Each side 2 lanes and such. Yields and stops and such. If only one I could manage maybe as I do circles in town and big city. That one gets to me. I take the bus and by driving up town I do not have to ride it to the big city to get home. Makes a big loop around. Save me time. I got smart today and took a cloth bag wit me to sit on on and wait. I think I just have some cold. I can not figure anything I am eating that can do it. Shje said some times it just happens. Does not sound right. I got sick a year ago late July. I have been doing good on the food. If bad weather I can walk to the corner and take the bus .

Thanks for the info about "buff and rub" never heard of the product, but there's a lot I don't know about.....Which brings me back to the subject of rocks, specifically rocks from Cuba. Now that the U.S. and the island are relaxing trade a little, I wonder if we will see any worthwhile rocks from there? Are they all limestone and coral? I'm hoping for some agate or something.

Me neither BUT Costa Rica is just one island away and it has that beautiful blue Larimar stone being used so much lately in jewelry.

I added a couple pieces of water-clear rock crystal to my collection shelf a few days ago. Will take a pic later after the rest of the household awakes.

I see NOW I shouldn't have propped them on the fossil rock, but they won't stand up alone. Each one has a nice tip but a rough bottom.

Well you know they call it "silver picking" if you buy the rocks instead of finding them yourself. I haven't been out looking for rocks for over a year and might not ever go again, but I can still search the net for goodies, lol. I don't know who I'm making this collection for, kids don't care about rocks, neither does my friend, she just puts up with them. None of mine have stickers on them like some folks do to tell where it came from, what it is, etc., so when I'm gone it's a pile of rocks, probably at a yard sale. Might make somebody happy tho

Yeah, I know what you mean. Here at rock club they bought speciments. Members had a sale each year also they had gem and mineral show with dealer. I only heard it called collecting. Never heard that term. I bought rocks to do jewelry to sell.
I have not been out anywhere to find anything. I have not bought anything either.

I bought a chunk of Mexican crazy lace agate from Kingsley north, a lapidary supplier. Busted it with a hammer in hopes of finding one good side to grind down and polish up for the shelf. To tell the truth it was a little disappointing so far. It might have to wait for warmer weather, you have to use water to grind which means outside, too cold to get wet now.

Found these quartz crystals at an Arkansas website. They are coated to make them more colorful. Each cluster is about two and a fraction of an inch long. Left one is with cobalt, right is coated with titanium.

This a slab of tigereye about two lbs. Not polished at all but if'n ya squint you can see a little fine lines etc on the near edge. Another project for a warm day. I think I'll just shine the edge a little and put it back on the shelf. Well, out of "rock money" for now, lol. Gotta get my garden plan together....
