I am very new to gardening since I haven't had one since...hmmmm, let's see...I guess about 1986!!! Been in the city life since then! BUT, as of Sunday, March 5th, I will have 10 acres up in NE AL and I hope to put in my first garden this summer. I have a LOT of work to do!!! I have 2 kids, one married, no kids; the other has lived at home with me until this coming weekend. He will stay here in FL and finish school (he'll graduate with his Business degree from UCF in May). So I am going to be a brand new empty nester next week!

Wow Laura this is so cool! I live in the country! A 26.6 acre homestead. I'm new to learning organic gardening. I just planted my tomatos today in fact! I have a great husband, Ken. He is a Registard Nurse, working in the ER at a near by Hospital. We will be married for 25 years this May. I have 3 children, all grown, and on their own. I have four grandbabies. I love chickens, and have a flock of 'em. Also have 2 geese, and a duck, 2 dogs, and no cats at this time. I would love to raise some goats. I love decorating my home of 900 sq. ft. It's a challenge! I also like to sew, cook, Bake, make homemade soap, and paint, and do stained glass work. I also Love rummage sales, and flea markets. I love country life!

Dap You make me envious, but in a good way. We live in the city. We consider ourselves urban homesteaders. We have a small lot but I am tryng to squeeze as much as I can here and in my daughter's yard. Her yard will be our orchard and, grapes, and berries. I have about 5 kinds already that need to be planted.

I thought I would introduce myself. I live in SW Missouri. Retired School teacher, had to take early retirement because of a health issue. I have been gardening a long time.I had my first garden when I was 4 years old. Mom let me plant pinto beans and radishes and a tomato plant. heheh I dug up the beans to see if they were growing... I am starting from scratch on this new lot. It is really a challenge as the soil here is awful. We have been here a year as of this month. I have put all the leaves compost and anything else I can get my hands on that does not require a truck and is organic to rebuild the flower beds. It will be later in the year when I will actually put the gardens together. First we are going to put up a privacy fence and then bring in a large storage building that will double as a pantry with freezers.
I am very rusty at gardening, lived in an apartment for three years. But slowly things are coming back to me. With the additives in the food we buy and two grandchildren with autism we will really depend on this garden for alot of our food. as much as I can grow year round.
I am very excited about it. The greatest thing of all is that my granddaughter age 5 will be my right hand man heheh. She loves to do anything I do. So put her to work as well. With the raised beds I am planning this should be a snap. deb

Its just me. WOW Laura...this is so pretty and colorful, too. I just love it....so cool!!!! Well, let me see....I'm a transplanted country kid,too..... living in the city now (don't care much for that, but 'til retirement...oh, well). Hubby and I have a very, very small plot and we raise some tomatoes and onions and lettuce...a few radishes, too. Real small scale here, folks....but, we really enjoy it. We are birdwatchers/feeders and I like to take LOTS of photos...... (my grandkids scream and run away whenever they see me coming with the camera now...Hee,Hee) I have a bit of a yakkity, yak, yak problem (never know when to shut-up) and sometimes I ramble...when I do just tell me to sit down and be still...ha,ha! I do tend to talk an awful lot....just ask my hubby. We've also got 2 elderly cats that we just love to pieces, too. Would you listen to this...there I go ramblin' on and on.......Hey, I think this is going to be a great little place to be....thanks Laura for having me.... later everybody........ Kathy P.S. My tulips are really looking good!!!!!
