Years ago my nails were always chipping and cracking. A relative told me to always file them going 1 direction instead of back an forth. Hope that makes sense. Also I don't wear polish, I believe the sun needs to be able to get to them to keep them healthy. Wearing polish constantly makes them turn yellow. Besides I work with my hands to much to try and keep polish on them.
As far as hair, I try not to use a hair drying. Instead I let it dry on its own, I think a blow dryer drys it out an makes it brittle..
When I was making my own soaps, my skin didn't crack and dry out so much. The homemade lye based soaps (cold processed) and gycerine was the best. I don't have the time to make it anymore, besides I have a stockpile of it for now, just forget to use it sometimes. trudy

we sort of had a dandruff problem in the winter untill i started using 'mane and tail' shampoo for horses.. i started using it because i have long coarse hair and it really works good for me.. then i noticed that bethany and jack weren't getting the dandruff they usually get in the winter time.. good stuff and affordable..they sell it at Kmart. in the people shampoo section

one of the best hot oil treatments I have ever tried is warm olive oil. Works every time moisten hair with warm oil put on shower cap and turn blow drier on hair for fifiteen minutes. Wash out and use crem conditioner. Hair will look great.
you can also use it on nail and toes, areas ofskin tha is dry and cracking.

I have well water too, but we have a water softener, so I don't have a problem with iron. I feel pretty fortunate that the landlord installed it. I have really really long hair, when I let my braids down it goes nearly to my knees, so having to pay for iron out treatments would get very expensive. Although I am unsure if us dark haired folks have to worry about the iron problem or not. Even if my hair had iron in it I am not sure anyone would be able to tell because my hair is so dark brown, nearly black. I do however have a problem with peeling & chipping nails. I wish there was something I could do to make them stronger.

Sorry I have been away for a few days...been so busy lately. My husband is off to the rehab now, I had to replant all of my tomatoes that were destroyed by heavy wind & rain & I put together a new forum for horror movies fans...very busy. But I am back now:) I tried the best I could to get a photo of my hair this morning...didn't work out too well on my crappy little web cam, it just won't pan out far enough to see my hair's full length, but here's what I've got. By the way, the handsome little devil in the pic with me is my grandson Damean:)
