With Christmas hoopla out of the way, and since I don't go in for a big New Year's celebration, I guess I better get out my seeds and finalize the decision on who gets planted for spring. I will TRY to wait until feb 15th or so to start any tomato seeds but it can't hurt to get them out and fondle them a bit, right? I only have a few pack of commercial seeds anyway since I gave away all my saved seeds when I thought I was through gardening. Decided I want to return to OP large slicing tomatoes, indeterminate. With only containers it will be a challenge to tie them up where the summer storms won't level them.

Bought a large tub, maybe 15 gallon, hard to say. I'll use it for a planter, probably a tomato plant. It's one of those round ones with rope handles and of course it's PURPLE! Didn't have any civilized colors like green or brown. Will drill holes today I hope. I think I have a good plan for a frame to tie the indeterminate vines on to, we'll see if it works.

I got 2 more of the 18-gallon totes yesterday for planting my tomatoes in this year. Together with the two I used last year I should have enough. I plan to have 1 early girl plant and 1 cherry tomato plus 2 large slicers. Then in a shorter row of 5-gallon buckets in front I'll put a ground cherry, onions, radish and whatever else I come up with. Right now I'm wracking my brain to figger a way to grow a luffa vine or 2 up a brick wall. Brick veneer wall I should say so I have to be careful with attachments but it get's plenty of sun so they should love it, luffas being from India and all.

My containers of cilantro and kale are looking sad from all the freezing, being above ground. Those 2 have usually done well for me over-wintering in the ground but not in the containers, or not this year anyway. I think if it warms to 50 like it's supposed to today I will pull all the plants and roots and get the dirt ready to do it all over again. These are 2 18-gallon totes I want to put tomatoes in. I will probably just stir in a little lime and let them sit til April.

Well in the last 2 weeks of spring-like weather the two totes are looking better so I'll leave them alone for now. I need to clean out the old berry vines, still haven't got that done. Got a few other small things to do garden-wise outside. I wish I knew what this weather is gonna do. Plenty of time left for snow and ice storms. I know, bite my tongue, lol.

Good for you! You can't have too many onions. I love onions in everything. Compromise tho here because GF can't digest them well. I put out a small container of sets for "Green onions" in the spring. Then stay stocked up on onion powder and flakes to top off my food the rest of the year, oh well.

I finally did get my seeds in the dirt, Early girl tomatoes, Delicious for slicing, Aussie 'cause I never grew them before, supposed to be big. Porterhouse, another slicer and Parks whopper. Also started some Giant Cape Gooseberry. Had several kinds of tomato and pepper that didn't make the cut, just no room.

This next week I will get some of our peppers that take a longer time to mature. They need a jump start on some of the other peppers we grow.

All 5 of my tomatoes are up now. Giant Cape Gooseberry is lagging behind. I have grown the reg and aunt Molly's ground cherry before and I must have started from seed, just can't remember how long they took to start.

I see the knuckles just breaking thru on the ground cherry. I need to plant a couple more pots with dwarf tomatoes that will go in the front row, sunny side of the container garden. I am waiting on some super-hot pepper seeds from Rita to grow just for the squirrel-repellent effect. Of course they won't be ripe till fall, hope I have enough cayenne ground up to work til then. Furry little @##$%$%^&&^%$#@, lol. and that's putting it nicely
